The earthly world is mired in wars, anger and greed. “Man to man is a wolf” - this is the kind that the good old life formula “all people are brothers” took on. It seems that not even a grain of justice is left in the whole world, but this is not so. There is a peace community on Earth, familiar to everyone under the acronym UN. Representatives of the United Nations have always sought, and today - especially, to resolve difficult world conflicts, to strengthen ties between individual peoples inhabiting the planet. The establishment of international holidays: good, bright, useful - is also their merit. Several memorable dates are dedicated to the UN staff themselves and what these wise people do. One such date, namely, the UN Civil Service Day, falls on June 23 and is intended to draw the attention of the world community to the UN civil service.

The history of the holiday UN Civil Service Day

The event that predetermined the establishment of such an important holiday for the whole world was the session of the 57th United Nations Assembly. At the end of 2002, at a congress of UN participants, Resolution 57/277 was adopted, according to which they decided to celebrate the UN Civil Service Day on June 23 annually.

Why was the UN Public Service Day created? The UN has set itself one single task: to convey to people the importance and necessity of public service, primarily in the ranks of peacekeepers. At the call made on the day the holiday was established at the United Nations Assembly, each state that is part of the United Nations must propagandize the advantages of public service over other forms of labor. These include the rewarding of particularly distinguished employees for the benefit of society, the agitation of young people (schoolchildren and students) in this direction. The UN has organized its own award, which is annually awarded to those who have contributed to the development of government activities. As a rule, the award ceremony takes place in the meeting room of the UN General Assembly.

The origin and formation of the UN

UN Civil Service Day is a great opportunity to look into history. How it all began?

The UN is not the first community that has set out to carry out an active struggle for world peace. Its prototype was the League of Nations, created at the very beginning of the XX century, in the conditions of the First World War. The activities of this organization were short-lived - the association had to be dissolved due to the imminent onset of World War II and the inability to influence the course of events. In other words, its central task is the League of Nations, alas. not performed.

The need for such a peacekeeping organization, however, arose almost immediately. 26 countries have come together in order to, despite the difficulties, make an attempt to stop the flagrant outrage, which involved a huge number of innocent people, as is usually the case in armed conflicts. The name of the new institution was given by Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States. Officially, the UN abbreviation was used on the first day of 1942 in the corresponding Declaration.

Each major institution or community must have its own charter. The fate of acquiring a similar set of rights, obligations, rules and instructions has not bypassed the United Nations. Numerous experts worked on the document; during the work, proposals of representatives of such participating countries as China, USA, Britain, and the USSR were mainly taken into account. The adoption of the Charter occurred in the summer of 1945, at the end of the war. Somewhat later, Poland joined the United Nations, becoming 51 members of the community.

The official UN date is October 24, 1945. This event is annually celebrated worldwide under the name of United Nations Day.

Over the years of its existence, a worldwide institution has established many international holidays. All of them give each of us the opportunity to discover kindness, patriotism, love of culture and awareness of the spiritual heritage of the planet. Among the good holidays are International Day of Happiness (March 20), World Poetry Day (March 21), International Day of Forests (March 21). The only day in the year when people suffering from a widespread genetic disease can feel their need for this planet - World Day for People with Down Syndrome - also established the UN in its time.

Features of the activity

Only three letters: UN - and a bright association flashes in my head right away with the restoration of justice, the manifestation of mercy, and the help of the humiliated and oppressed. The Organization’s activities are developed in many directions and carried out by structural components: the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the International Court of Justice, the Trusteeship Council, and the General Assembly. Five of these bodies make up the skeleton of the United Nations, its “backbone”.

In order to realize the full breadth of the spectrum of gratuitous services rendered to the world community as a whole, the main work directions of the association’s work should be highlighted. Here they are:

  • dispatch of humanitarian aid to those in need in natural disaster areas;
  • environmental protection;
  • development of technology for environmentally friendly products;
  • counterterrorism;
  • carrying out activities in defense of the democratic system.

Of course, this is only a handful of problems solved by the UN today, but it is quite enough to assess the magnitude of the work of this state structure. At present, the United Nations includes nearly 200 states that are fully entitled to participate in discussions. The activities of the UN cannot but affect the lives of earthlings, even if now we do not feel positive changes in our own existence. Sooner or later this bright moment will come. In the end, to control the social functioning of the planet, trying to make it better, is not easy, especially if there are adverse circumstances around the world.

The United Nations is addressing one of the most important issues of humanity - the maintenance of peace and security throughout the world. This was originally conceived. Today, UN participants are involved in solving problems and issues in places where this is necessary. They are engaged in political processes, participate in justice, and are involved in special training for employees in the ranks of the police. They also take part in the work for the clearance of mines that are on the ground.

Fifteen years ago, officially set the date for June 23 - the UN Public Service Day. This was spelled out in a special document, which also indicated that all states supporting the implementation of the peacekeeping mission are required to provide annual celebrations in honor of the UN on June 23.

The United Nations is a global gathering where questions from different countries can be raised as problems arise in them. These primarily include the prevention of hostilities or their cessation in order to restore a peaceful situation between different states. There are times when conflicts arise within the country itself.

Representatives of different parties, between which disagreements arise, at UN meetings can reach a compromise through peace negotiations. UN Head is Secretary General. Often, he leads peacekeeping missions thanks to a special representative.

In carrying out its work, the United Nations has prevented many conflict situations that could escalate into serious hostilities.

The unique idea of \u200b\u200bforming an organization of this kind belonged to the Atlantic Party. American President Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Gergel signed the concept in 1941. After the end of World War II, 51 countries of the world voluntarily joined an international organization. Today, of the 193 officially existing states on the planet, the United Nations includes 191 countries.

Public service is one of the main structures for each country. It is entrusted with important functional tasks related to the organization and management of public processes. To honor and respect the employees of this service, a professional holiday was introduced. It is celebrated every year on the same day - June 23.

history of the holiday

June 23 marks the Day of UN Civil Service in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and several other countries. This date first appeared on the general calendar in 2003. It is governed by General Assembly decision 57/227. This event is celebrated by all representatives of the profession of municipal and central government apparatus. The document calls on the member countries of the world organization to hold special events on this day in order to highlight the importance of civil service for society and its contribution to the development process, to reward civil servants, as well as to orient the vital interests of young people towards making decisions about the career of a civil servant .

For example, in Ukraine on the same day is celebrated the Day of a public servant. He received official status thanks to Leonid Kuchma. The former president issued and signed a decree back in 2003. This is the key to strict observance of civil rights, increasing the degree of well-being of citizens and the state.

The introduction of this date is a tribute to workers who make a significant contribution to simplifying the political life of states around the world. Only a high level of professionalism, impeccable honesty, the responsibility of people serving in the state apparatus, makes it possible to competently organize effective process management at all levels of government.
