Dear employees of the East European Institute of Psychoanalysis, a material has been prepared for you on various indicators that are used to evaluate the scientist’s productivity. We kindly request to familiarize yourself with and take into account in your scientific activities, as well as register on the site

Scientific Electronic Library!

How to find out if the author is registered in the RSCI and the analytical system SCIENCE INDEX?

  • Go to the site (http://elibrary.ru)
  • In the left column in the "Navigator" select AUTHOR'S INDEX
  • In the search form, enter your Last Name in the field.
  • Press the SEARCH button
    To see or not to see yourself.

Perhaps you are registered, but don’t remember your username and password or don’t remember at all that you registered yourself (the organization in which you worked or worked could do this centrally), then you can use access recovery:

Enter your full name and your username and password will be sent to your mail. Use it to go to the site to use the tools for authors. Your first step is to go to the REGISTRATION QUESTIONNAIRE and make sure that you are registered in the SCIENCE INDEX system.

If you clearly saw yourself, but the system says that such an author is not registered, then this is true (there are links to your works in the RSCI database, but there was no personal registration). Start registering.

How to register in the RSCI and SCIENCE INDEX?

  1. It is necessary to fill in all the fields, at least marked with an asterisk, in the Registration form and necessarily in SCIENCE INDEX
  2. Click the Save button, go into the mail and follow the link to complete the registration.
    After some time (no more than 10 days), it will be possible to use not only the library, but also the SCIENCE INDEX analytical add-in for authors (search for their publications).

How to search and add your publications contained in the RSCI database?

  1. Go to the website of the National Electronic Library (http://elibrary.ru)
  2. In the left frame in the "Navigator" section, enter the username and password, press ENTER
  3. In the top menu, select the tab FOR AUTHORS
  4. In the middle column, select PERSONAL PROFILE OF THE AUTHOR
  5. In the middle column, select MY PUBLICATIONS (you can see the whole list of publications linked to the author)
  6. SHOW in the search field - specify only "non-attached publications that may belong to the author", do not uncheck the box "take into account publications extracted from cited references"
  7. Press the SEARCH button
  8. Check off your publications, if any. You can reduce the selection by using, for example, indicating the subject or other parameters
  9. With the right frame, select "Add selected publications to the list of works"
  10. You will be asked to add these publications to your list. Agree

If some of your publications are not in the RSCI database, then only the responsible representative of the organization (in our case, VEIP) can add them there if he has such rights.

Further, if you have questions, you need to read the section RINZ AND SCIENCE INDEX QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What is a scientific citation index?

Russian Citation Index (RSCI)

1. Impact factor for a scientific journal (it is calculated as the number of links in a given year to articles published in the journal over the previous 3 years and is to some extent a characteristic of the authority of the journal)
2. citation index (RSCI)
3. HIRSHA index

A distinctive feature of these indicators (RSCI and HIRSHA index) is that they can be applied to any array of articles (author, laboratory, institute, country, etc. for any period of time).

Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) is the main analytical system for evaluating the publication activity and citation of Russian authors, organizations, scientists, journals.

The RSCI email address is www.elibrary.ru

In Russia, the citation index is increasingly being introduced into the sphere of science and education every year.

Today, this indicator is actively used:

  • The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation to assess the activities of scientists and scientific organizations as a whole, when conducting an examination of applications for financing in the framework of federal target programs and other competitions
  • heads of scientific institutions for the certification of scientific workers and assess the effectiveness of their scientific activities;
  • publishers of scientific literature and periodicals to predict the relevance of the work of a particular author to the target audience.

Web of Science andScopus

The most authoritative of the existing international systems citations whose indices are recognized worldwide are: "Web of Science" and its competitor is a relatively young system " Scopus". The journals included in these systems are officially recognized by the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC).

The Web of Science system covers more than 12,000 publications in English and partly in German (since 1980). This citation database is currently owned by Thomson Reuters. On the Russian-language website of Thomson Reuters, recommendations are given on working with Web of Sciences.

Citation system « Scopus » is the world's largest unified multidisciplinary abstract database (since 1995), which is updated daily. Scopus - the most extensive database scientific publications without full texts. Scopus covers over 15 thousand scientific journals from 4 thousand scientific publishers of the world.

However, very few Russian scientific journals are presented in international databases. The cost of subscribing to foreign systems is significant amounts, which for most russian organizations just unacceptable.

Therefore, in Russia since 2005. Scientific Electronic Library the national Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) is being created. RSCI is a national information and analytical system, which includes almost 20 million publications of Russian authors, as well as information on citing these publications, more than from 8000 Russian magazines (and about 3000 Russian magazines are in the public domain, all in all there are more than 46 thousand magazines in the database).

The RSCI base is intended not only for operational support scientific research relevant reference and bibliographic information, but it is also a powerful tool for assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of the activities of research organizations, scientists, the level of scientific journals, etc.

In addition to bibliographic and citation information, the RSCI includes information about authors of publications and organizations in which they work. This mechanism makes it possible to integrate publication and citation indicators: from a scientific researcher, author, structural unit and institution where the circle of authors works, to ministries and departments or entire administrative and geographical regions.

Thus, the RSCI allows you to:

  • analyze the statistics of the publication activity of individual authors, groups of authors, organizations and journals;
  • find publications cited in a single article;
  • find publications citing the article;
  • search for bibliographies by topic or subject;
  • view information about magazines, publication authors, and the organizations in which they work.

According to the RSCI database, according to Order No. 406 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated 10/14/2009, when analyzing publication activity, citation is taken into account for the five years preceding the current year. Although the general indicators take into account the publication activity of the author for ALL years. It is also worth noting that the Hirschi index is not calculated for 5 recent years (today it is the period 2009-2013), but for the entire period.

As indicated above, by the personal citation index, one can judge the scientific performance of one author.

The Russian Citation Index includes 3 main indicators:

  • total number of publications where given person Featured as an author or co-author. The index is not divided by the number of co-authors; self-citations are not subtracted.
  • the number of citations of the author’s works (according to cited references)
  • hirschi index

It should be noted that when assessing a personal citation index, one should be guided by the rule of comparing the like with the like. So, it makes no sense to compare the indices and reports of a 50-year-old professor of science with a large number of publications and a young graduate student who published 4–5 articles, just as it would be incorrect to compare the citation index of researchers from different fields of science and medicine.

Hirsch index

In addition to the citation index, another very informative indicator is the so-called Hirsch index (h-index). The Hirsch Index was proposed in 2005 by the American physicist Jorge Hirsch of the University of San Diego, California.

The most important thing to understand is how it “stands for”:

For example, an h-index of 8 means that scientists published at least 8 works, each of which was cited at least 8 times. Moreover, the number of works cited a smaller number of times can be any. Similarly, the h-index can be calculated for a scientific journal, organization or country.

Like any formal indicator, the h-index has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of the index include the fact that it will be equally low both for the author of one overpopular article and for the author of many works cited no more than once. Hirsch index allows you to filter out the so-called "random collaborators"; this indicator will be high only for those who have enough publications, and all of them (or at least many of them) are quite in demand, i.e. often cited by other researchers.

The index works well only when comparing scientists working in the same field.

The RSCI base is still far from complete, as it is being formed relatively recently and has been compiled quite unsystematically. But she is constantly improving.

How to increase RSCI and Hirsch index?

  1. Strive to publish original articles of a high scientific and practical level, which other authors would readily refer to.
  2. To be published in collaboration with a colleague who has high scientometric indicators.
  3. In publications, provide links to their own articles published in other journals. When sending publications to English-language publications, provide links to their own articles published in translated literature.
  4. Those. increase self-citation as well exchange links to articles of colleagues. To do this, share with colleagues information about the publication publication.
  5. In publications indicate VEIP as the author’s place of work
  6. Submit articles to journals supported by the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission, where the published materials undergo thorough scientific examination and are available on the Internet.
  7. Compose quality essays.
  8. To increase the impact factor of "their" journal - to provide links to articles of "their journal", as well as actively inform colleagues about the articles of this group of authors published in the journal. If "your" journal is not in the RSCI database, recommend the publisher to register in it. Here is information for publishers of periodicals, and here is for non-periodicals.
  9. Careful attitude to the correct bibliographic design of their articles and cited lists of literature, to writing the surname and name.
  10. And again: When publishing articles, it is worth considering the presence of a journal in the RSCI and in the list recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission.

What level of citation should authors have? There is no definite answer, but approximate guidelines exist:

  • Hirsch index from 0-2 according to RSCI - corresponds to the scientific activity of a novice scientist (applicant academic degree, graduate student);
  • Hirsch index from 3 to 6 according to RSCI - corresponds to the scientific activity of the candidate of sciences;
  • Hirsch index from 7 to 10 according to RSCI - corresponds to the scientific activity of the doctor of sciences;
  • Hirsch Index from 11 to 15 - corresponds to the scientific activity of a famous scientist (member of the dissertation council, founder of a scientific school);
  • Hirsch index from 16 and above - corresponds to the scientific activity of a world-famous scientist (head of a scientific organization, chairman of a dissertation council)

In the questionnaire, you can add or change all the fields. If you changed your work, changed your last name, or you have other significant changes, you can always adjust the profile information of the author.

Editing the list of publications of the author in the RSCI

In the section "My publications" you can see the List of publications in the RSCI, which you are the author. In this section, you can only delete publications that do not apply to you, mistakenly attached, as well as attach publications that have not yet been automatically attached.

In the "My publications" section, you can also link publications to the author’s profile. In the search query, select "untethered publications that may belong to the author." In our case, there are no such publications. But if you have them, you can mark them with a checkmark next to the publication and click on the item in the "Tools" section of "Add selected publications to the author’s list of works".

If the required publications are not found, then you can use the " Search for publications"in the profile of the author.

If you found your article, but not on your list. Go to the article page, for this click on its title. On the right in the "Tools" block, you will see "Add publication to the list of my works." After that you can check how the article was attached either in the list of publications, or by going to the publication page, you will see a notification that the article is on your list.

Editing and searching for citations by the author at the RSCI

In section " My quotes"You can see the List of links to your publications. Also, most importantly, you can find citations that have not been attached to you.

We go to "My citations." Select in the item "Show" - "untethered links that may belong to this author." Click "Search". In our case, found 26 untethered links, and these are 26 citations not included in the author’s indicators!

In order to add links, check the box next to the link, and then click on the menu on the right "Tools" the item that is shown on the screen above "Add selected links to the author’s citation list". Confirm that you are the author of quoted publications.

Additionally, you can use in the author’s profile “Citation Search in the RSCI” if the initials and surname were erroneously indicated.

Updating the author's bibliometric indicators in the RSCI

To update bibliometric data, such as the Hirsch index, the number of citations, etc., we’ll go to the section in the Author’s Profile " Analysis of publication activity " . Select, as shown below, "Update author metrics."

Your metrics are now updated.

The RSCI, or Russian Science Citation Index, takes into account citations and publications of authors in 7 thousand Russian journals and contains information about 700 thousand scientists, 11 thousand scientific organizations.

The project has existed since 2005, but earlier archives are presented in many areas of science. In 2005, the Ministry of Education and Science put on the agenda the issue of improving the quality of research activities in Russia.

The reason for this was the extremely low number of references to the work of Russian scientists by their Western colleagues. It was assumed that this was due to the lack of tools for an objective assessment of the work of researchers. As a result, healthy competition did not stimulate scientists to work more efficiently, and material support in the form of grants and prizes was often issued not to the author who really deserved it.

Around the world, the rating of a scientist is estimated using scientometric indicators; they are calculated by special analytical platforms Web of Science, Scopus). A competition was announced for the creation of the RSCI. According to the results of the contest, the official website was chosen the Elibrary electronic library. It is on this Internet resource that you can find the RSCI rating for scientists, journals, scientific organizations.

The RSCI index allows you to objectively evaluate scientific activity. For this, special scientometric indicators were developed. Both the RSCI and other analytical platforms use them for their activities. Speaking about what functions the RSCI performs, information should be separately emphasized.

Since 2010, the RSCI database began to include not only articles from scientific periodicals, but also monographs, dissertations, abstracts and reports from collections of conference materials, patents, and teaching aids.

RSCI magazines and conferences are included in the database based on the selection of the highest quality. Although Russian science discusses how conscientiously this selection is being conducted, non-competent publications are nevertheless not taken into account for calculating the index.

For an objective assessment of the quality of a scientist’s work, a citation index is used. Unlike English-language analytical platforms, RSCI scientometric indicators are calculated differentially. You can see not only the number of citations of the researcher’s works, but also see the percentage of self-citations, references to references, links in independent articles of former co-authors of the scientist.

The RSCI also calculates the Hirsch index - this is an indicator that is equal to the number of articles cited at least a certain number of times.

Many scientists are interested in the question of how to increase RSCI indicators. You can increase the rating of the RSCI using various tricks that can not be calculated. For example, mutual citation is popular when colleagues agree to mention each other in their works, and magazines sometimes require authors to refer in their article to any publication from this publication.

How to register at the RSCI and how to determine your index

First of all, to get to the RSCI, a scientist must create a personal account. Registration in the RSCI is carried out on the site Elibrary.ru. The user indicates his passport data, place of work, email address, come up with a login and password to exit. After that, a personal code will be sent to his mailbox, which will be necessary for access to the RSCI scientometric database. This is how a scientist can get access to the RSCI: how to find out your index and how to evaluate colleagues' indicators or the degree of authority of the journal.

One of the advantages of this system is the ability to independently adjust the RSCI rating indicators: both adding a new publication and correcting information entered by mistake. after registering with the RSCI, the author can save the settings for searching magazines in the RSCI database, save the browsing history of publications, and make thematic selections.

Without authorization, users cannot access information from the RSCI database. This applies to both articles that are in the public domain and paid publications. In order to read full-text versions of such articles, you must subscribe to the publication. For free a visitor to the site can only get acquainted with the annotation, keywords, list of references.

Search of magazines in the RSCI database can be carried out by word or subject, taking into account the impact factor or without it.

RSCI: requirements for the design of an article, journal, bibliography

A few years ago, a unified publication design standard for the RSCI was adopted. The requirements for the articles are fully set forth in a pdf-format document, where all the details are described in detail on 5 pages: name and font size (Times New Roman, 14), paragraph indent (1.25 cm), margins (2 cm), line spacing (1.5).

It is forbidden to use the letter "ё", color drawings, bold, insert spaces between paragraphs. The text is aligned in width, word wrap should be automatic. All references to literary sources in the course of the text are taken in square brackets.

The requirements of the RSCI for the design of the list of references are as follows: automatic numbering of sources is not allowed (only manually), font size is 12, the names of the sources are drawn up according to the standard model. An example of the design of the bibliography: Ivanov I. I. Enterprise Economics: a textbook for students / I. I. Ivanov, A. T. Petrova. - 3rd ed., Revised. and add. - Voronezh: Voronezh State University, 2014 .-- 338 p. - ISBN 865-5-322-33347-2.

The nuances of bibliography design are presented in the RSCI methodological manual.

Requirements for publication also make it necessary to compile the reference part by the researcher himself, and not by the editors of the journal. The reference part includes an annotation, a list of keywords, information about the author. These data are also typed in 12 fonts, information about the author includes the name and initials, the full name of the organization on the basis of which the study was conducted, the city, academic rank, degree and position of the scientist. The author’s surname and name of the institution are given in Russian and in English according to RSCI standards.

Magazine requirements are not so clear. The inclusion of a scientific publication in the list of the RSCI is possible on the basis of a contract between the editors and the administration electronic library Elibrary You can fill out the application on the website on the Internet.

How is the RSCI database and its official website developing?

Several years ago, project managers signed contracts with the administration of the Web of Science and Scopus platforms. Now the Russian scientific citation index on the official website is indicated taking into account the rating indicators of the researcher from these analytical sites. In 2015, the best periodicals from the list of RSCI journals were included in the Web of Science database. Reference part of articles on english language placed in the public domain - these are annotations, information about the author, list of references, keywords.

Using identifiers, one of the most important problems in the evaluation and management of science is solved - the relationship of the author and his works. Identifiers make it possible to establish an unambiguous correspondence between the author and the results of his scientific and publishing activities, which cannot be established by name due to problems with namesakes, change of surnames during marriage, incomplete indication of names in publications, various transliterations, etc. There is no single global database of publications, so there are several identifiers.

In a previous post, I already wrote that the Russian scientific citation index is calculated by the service of the electronic scientific library Elibrary.ru. To find out your RSCI, you first need to register in this service, as accurately as possible indicating information about yourself.

1. How to register on Elibrary.ru to calculate the RSCI?

There are two registration options: regular user and registration as an author. The second includes the first, i.e. First, register as a user, and then as the author - or immediately fill out an extended form.

To do this, go to registration page and carefully fill in all the fields marked with an asterisk.

In addition to the names, the fields have explanations and tips. To see them, hover over the question icon for each field.

Where there is a Select or Add button, click it and fill out the form that appears on top of the main profile. For example, in the following form, manually enter the full name of the organization on the left, and on the right select the city where it is located. After that, click Search and select the organization you need from the list (if only one is found, click it - only this way it will appear in the main form field).

After that, the additional form can be closed.

Having reached the end of the user form, put a checkmark in front of the inscription "register me as an author in the Science Index system" and continue filling in - as an author.

When all the fields marked with an asterisk are filled in, do not forget to click the Save button.

2. Fields not marked with an asterisk are also important!

Fields that are not marked with an asterisk are not required to be filled in immediately; they can then be edited by going to the same page with your name and password. But you don’t need to delay their filling, otherwise your RSCI will remain a mystery for a long time.

Be sure to fill out the Logs field (they are added from the RISC list).

If you work or worked in different organizations, enter other organizations in the Organizations field (necessary for the best recognition of your work, if other organizations are indicated in some of your publications).

For the same reasons, the form has the field Previous name (maiden name).

3. How long to wait for the result?

But I don’t know !!! In any case, the result will be far from being ready as fast as one would expect from a modern web service! What were you waiting for? This is a serious Russian scientific service, and not Yandex or any Google! Its developers seriously complain that only a limited budget did not allow them to carry out manual data processing. I have been waiting for the result for so long that more than once librarian girls came up in my imagination, painstakingly sorting through paper forms in wooden drawers.

Seriously, they say that the information is processed within 10 days. But this is provided if you have not ignored fields without asterisks. If after a couple of weeks there is no result, then check the completeness and correctness of filling out the registration form and, if necessary, make changes to it: edit the keywords, add sections of the thematic section, magazines, etc. After editing, the RSCI should be determined almost immediately.

On the site elibrary.ru, in the left menu, click Authors search (or go to this link), fill out the form that opens and click Search.

The main figures - the number of publications and the number of citations - are at the bottom right. Pressing any of these numbers will open the corresponding list of publications.

The ability to view is available to unregistered users. Without registration or authorization, you can find out the RICN of any scientist - of course, provided that he himself is registered on Elibrary.ru as an author.
